A number of methods (also called “protocols”) can be used to stimulate a woman’s ovaries to produce eggs during IVF. The most common methods are long protocol and short protocol. Each approach involves scans to monitor how the follicles are developing for as many healthy eggs to be collected as possible.

Your doctor will decide whether you should receive long protocol or short protocol based on your age, medical history, fertility health and how your body is likely to respond to the medication.
